Hasiok - means a garbage can in the Upper Silesian dialect

Hasior -famous Polish sculptor, creating assemblages

The words Hasior and Hasiok are seemingly one and the same word. They are divided into two by an error in the graphic sign - in the last letter, in its upper part. An underscripted R or an overwritten K makes Hasior appear once and Hasiok once. This marginal transcription error, however, has big consequences in reality, as it turns out that the two terms exist in parallel.

Each has a separate meaning - a very narrow and elitist one, requiring specialized knowledge to decipher what lies behind a particular set of characters. What does Hasior mean and what does Hasiok mean? Is it acceptable for Hasior to exist without Hasiok and vice versa? Does similarity in sound translate into similarity in meaning? We will try to answer these (and other) questions during a 1.5-month residency at the Wladyslaw Hasior Gallery, a branch of the Tatra Museum, contemplating and reconstructing the meanings of a small error / slip of the tongue / inaccuracy in reality - here symbolized by a tiny fragment of a graphic sign - an objective message functioning in contemporary civilization.

British-American philosopher Catherine Wilson suggested in her discourse that different realities (worlds) are not isolated from each other. An example is the real world and the world of fiction. On a daily basis, the two seamlessly intermingle and interact with each other. They even form logical dependencies, necessary for the existence of civilization - let the famous Modus Tollens rule of logic serve as an example, saying that if from X follows Y, then with the falsity of Y we must also accept the falsity of X. In writing these words, was Wilson thinking of Hasior and Hasiok? This free inspiration of Catherine Wilson's insights is the result of a quiet hope that Hasior and Hasiok also interpenetrate each other, creating a tenuous error of write/read relationships such as Modus Tollens, Modus Tollendo or any other Modus known and unknown in this or any other reality.
